There are no two ways about it: We're deep in the dog days of summer. It's hot, it's humid (at least in New York City), and the novelty of many people's favorite season is starting to wear thin. But fear not! We've still got plenty of hot takes about summer replica watches to bring you. To kick off this week's episode of HODINKEE Radio, I pulled Cole, James, and Jon into our makeshift office studio (yes, with air conditioning) to talk about what replica watches we're wearing this summer and why, our dream summer watches, and what makes for a good summer fake watch in the first place.
The heart of this episode though is my conversation with Los Angeles Times staff reporter Daniel Miller about his podcast Larger Than Life, which chronicles the life of legendary street racer Big Willie Robinson and how he brought a divided LA together through a shared passion for fast cars. Even as someone who is admittedly not the biggest gear head in the world, I thoroughly enjoyed the show and when I found out that Daniel was a part of the HODINKEE community I knew we had to get him in the studio for a chat. In addition to talking about Larger Than Life we also get into what it was like growing up in LA car dealerships, how to hunt for broken replica watches on eBay, and why convex bezels make for awesome dive watches.
Wrapping things up is our very first Voicemail From Joe T, a new segment we're introducing. This week, Joe calls in to share some thoughts about the current situation in Hong Kong and how it relates to the replica rolex explorer watch world specifically. I'm not going to spoil anything here ?it's classic Joe and you definitely need to give it a listen.
We hope you enjoy Episode 53 of HODINKEE Radio. Check out the show notes below and let us know what you think in the comments.ADVERTISEMENT Wrist Check
I love it when a guest comes prepared, and boy did Daniel Miller come prepared. Not only did he roll up with a beautiful Breitling Top Time on his wrist (one of those replica watches that he scored broken on eBay and easily brought back to life), he also quickly pulled a fake watch roll out of his bag with a few other vintage goodies in it. Included was a Heuer Viceroy Autavia (which you can learn all about here), an Omega Chronostop driver's watch, a Waltham that's extremely reminiscent of an early Bathyscaphe, and a Gruen diver with a funk convex bezel. In case you had any doubts that this guy's a real fake watch nerd, these should do the trick.Show Notes
